The Students

studentsThese students work hard. Some hope to be writers when they grow up, while others hope to be doctors or professors or scientists. What they all have in common is that they love learning.

All Wordsmiths students either live in the Birmingham city limits or they attend school systems where the percentage of students on free or reduced price lunches is over 70 percent. (In most cases, both are true.) Students typically join Wordsmiths in 7th or 8th grade with the hope that they will remain in the program though the end of high school.   • Concentrated help with standardized test preparation, college essays, scholarship applications, and general college preparation.
  • A $2,000 scholarship at the end of their senior year in high school towards the college of their choice.
